Privacy Policy

Who we are

Noviquiz ("we", "us") operates noviquiz.com, a free platform for hosting real-time quizzes. This policy explains what personal data we collect from hosts and quiz participants, why we collect it, how we use it, and who we share it with.

1. What data we collect

Information you or a participant provides directly:

• Account information: email address and password (stored by our authentication provider as a salted hash — never in plain text) if you sign up directly, or your name, email, and profile picture if you sign up with Google.
• Quiz content: the questions, answers, media, and settings you create as a host.
• Quiz results: answers submitted, scores, and timing, used to run and display live results, leaderboards, and history.
• Participant data: a display name or team name chosen at join time, plus any optional fields (like email or address) a host has enabled via Lead Capture, which the participant fills in voluntarily. Participants don't need an account to join a quiz.
• Support and contact messages: anything you submit through our contact form, plus the sender's email address so we can reply.

Information collected automatically:

• Device and usage information: IP address, browser and device type, and pages visited, collected via standard hosting logs and Google Analytics.
• Cookies and local storage: essential cookies to keep hosts signed in, and browser storage to remember a participant's connection state within a single quiz session. We also use Google Analytics cookies to understand usage of the site. We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Noviquiz is free to use, so we don't currently collect any payment information.

2. Why we collect it

We use the information above to:

• Create and secure your account.
• Host live quizzes and score gameplay in real time.
• Save your quiz history and dashboard, and show leaderboards and rankings.
• Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and disruption of the Service.
• Respond to support requests and feedback.
• Understand usage and improve the app.
• Maintain the security of the Service.
• Comply with our legal obligations.

We do not sell your data, and we do not use quiz or participant content for advertising.

3. Third-party services

We rely on a small number of infrastructure providers to run Noviquiz, who process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments:

• Supabase — database, authentication, and real-time hosting.
• Vercel — application hosting and infrastructure logs.
• Google — sign-in, only if you choose to use Google to sign in, and Google Analytics, for site usage analytics.

We don't currently use a payment processor, push notifications, or a dedicated crash-reporting service. A host can also see and export the participant data submitted to their own quizzes; hosts are responsible for handling that data appropriately (see our Terms of Service).

4. User-generated content

• You own the quizzes, questions, and other content you create.
• Quizzes aren't publicly browsable — participants only see a quiz's content by joining a live game with the host's join code.
• We may remove content that violates our Terms of Service, such as illegal, harassing, or hateful content.
• After you delete a quiz or your account, we may retain backups containing that content for a limited time (see Data retention below) before they're fully purged.

5. Data retention

We keep your account and quiz data for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual quizzes at any time from your dashboard, or permanently delete your entire account and its data from the Account page — this happens immediately, not on a delay.

Infrastructure logs (such as hosting and analytics logs) are kept only as long as needed for security and diagnostics, on our providers' standard retention schedules. Routine database backups, kept for disaster recovery, may briefly retain deleted data until they roll over — typically within a few weeks.

6. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, object to or restrict certain processing, and withdraw consent you've previously given. You can access, export, or delete your quiz data at any time while signed in, and you can permanently delete your account and all data associated with it from your Account page. If you're a participant and want data you submitted to a quiz removed, please contact the host directly, or reach us at privacy@noviquiz.com.

7. Children's privacy

Creating a Noviquiz host account requires you to be at least 13 years old. We don't knowingly collect account information from anyone under 13; if we learn that we have, we'll delete it.

Noviquiz is often used in classrooms, where participants (such as students) join a quiz without creating an account. Hosts (such as teachers) are responsible for obtaining any consent required under applicable law — including the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and, in the EU, the GDPR's rules on children's consent — before collecting personal information from minors via Lead Capture fields, and should avoid enabling those fields for quizzes aimed at children where consent hasn't been obtained.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical measures to protect your data, including encryption of data in transit (HTTPS), password hashing, and access controls that limit who can reach production data. We also monitor our systems for suspicious activity. No method of storing or transmitting data is 100% secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

9. International transfers

Our infrastructure providers may store and process data in countries other than your own, including the United States. By using Noviquiz, you understand that your data may be transferred to, and processed in, such locations, which may have different data protection laws than your country.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll update the effective date above.
